Your safety is your decision

SocialCue helps adults discover one another at public venues. Whether you meet anyone in person is entirely your decision and your responsibility. These guidelines describe practical steps and the controls you have; they are not a guarantee of safety. They support our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

We do not verify members, and we do not supervise, monitor, or chaperone any meeting. We do not run background checks, criminal-records checks, identity verification, or photo verification, and we have no staff present at venues.

1. Meeting and socializing safely

  • Meet in public. We strongly recommend that any first meeting happen in a public place, during business hours, with other people present.
  • Tell someone. Consider telling a friend where you are going and who you are meeting.
  • Use your judgment. Trust your instincts, stay aware of your surroundings, and leave any situation that feels unsafe.
  • At hotels. For a Come Say Hello sent from a hotel’s designated public area, meet in that named public area and stay in a public place. Meet First confirmations are self-reported; SocialCue does not verify that you met. When the Meet First period ends, SocialCue stops facilitating that interaction. Any decision after that is your own, and personal boundaries, the venue’s rules, the law, and our other rules still apply.

2. Protect your personal information

Share personal details slowly and only when you are comfortable. On SocialCue, your contact handles are disclosed to another member only after you are connected and you have each separately chosen to share them — one person opting in discloses nothing. Nothing obligates you to share contact details, respond, or meet.

Your community is optional. Sharing whether you are Heterosexual or LGBTQIA+ is never required. If you show the LGBTQIA+ badge, members who can see your profile will see it. If you use your community for Venue filtering, members using that community view may be able to tell your community from where you appear. Think about your comfort and your surroundings before turning either on — you can turn them off, or choose Prefer not to say, at any time.

Your Identity details are optional too. If your community is LGBTQIA+, you may add a gender identity and sexual orientations. Each stays off your profile unless you turn it on; once on, members who can open your full profile will see it. Showing the LGBTQIA+ badge or using Venue filtering never shows them. Turn a detail on only if you are comfortable with that, and turn it off or remove it at any time.

3. Public venues, transport, and going out

  • Venues are independent businesses. Unless we explicitly say otherwise, SocialCue does not own, operate, staff, or supervise a venue, and your presence there is subject to that venue’s own rules and the laws that apply.
  • Arrange your own transport and keep control of it.
  • Look after yourself. Know your limits, keep an eye on your drink, and stay in control of your night.

4. Location and presence

You control when and how you appear:

  • You choose your visibility. You decide when you appear to others and when you don’t.
  • Ghost Mode. Turning on Ghost Mode immediately removes your current presence records so you stop appearing at any venue at once, in every view of a venue’s visible members list. You may turn it on or off at any time.
  • Community filtering is not hiding. Turning off “Use my community for Venue filtering” only removes you from the Heterosexual and LGBTQIA+ views — you still appear under All whenever you are visible. Use Ghost Mode to stop appearing entirely.
  • Your exact location is never shown to another member. Members see only that you are present at a venue — never your coordinates, and never a live headcount. At a hotel, members who chose the same designated public area can see the name of that area.
  • Location permission. You may revoke location access at any time in your device settings; presence features will then stop working. Location accuracy is not guaranteed — do not rely on the Service to determine anyone’s actual whereabouts.

5. Harassment, reporting, and blocking

If someone harasses, threatens, stalks, outs you or threatens to, or otherwise makes you feel unsafe, you have tools that work immediately:

  • Block another member at any time. Blocking takes effect immediately and is silent — the blocked person is not told. A block applies to a specific account: if either account is deleted, the block ends, and if the person returns with a new account, you can block that account too.
  • Report a profile, photo, or comment directly in the app. Reports are confidential and your identity as a reporter is not disclosed.

Persistence after a declined or ignored approach is harassment and is not allowed — see our Community Guidelines.

6. Emergencies

If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services first, then report the member in the app. SocialCue is not an emergency service and cannot respond to emergencies.

7. Built for adults

SocialCue is designed for adults; membership is limited to people 18 and older. See Age Restriction & Children’s Privacy.
